I know your exercises are supposed to be quick, but life has a way of disallowing any attempts on my part to be quick about anything. Such is the way ;-/ However, I was so fascinated by this List Poem way of collecting thoughts that I vowed to finish it. Better late than never, my mother always said.
First, I want to share with you what my list categories were...
1) Songs about my life. [I used two of these.]
2) Article titles from my collection of Rolling Stone magazines. [I used five of these.]
3) Slogans of my favorite candy [None of these made the final cut, so I used one as the title].
4) Favorite titles of books on my bookshelves. [I used two of these.]
5) Lines from a random draw of my Angel Tarot cards. (I used one of these.]
Second, I don't think there were any hard and fast rules about the structure of putting our 10 chosen things together but it was my desire to use them "as is" -- without adding any extra words to help with the thought flow. The order they appear in is the only thing I switched up.
"Thank You For Being A Life Saver"
If I can dream
A dream you don’t want to wake from
In the unlikely event
The dead rise again
Passing on knowledge …
Laughs you can choke on
There are worse things I could do
Paranoia ain’t what it used to be
Tell no one,
The Psychedelic Warrior
I had such fun writing this. Thinking outside the box in these ways feels like learning a completely new language ... a new way of expressing myself that is so organic and yet ingrained in who I am. I'm behind on the next exercise already but I'll be jumping over to tackle it shortly! Thanks so much Hattie :-)
Well isn't this a fun sounding exercise! I can't wait to sink my teeth into this one. As much as I call myself a fan of poetry, I don't think I've ever read one that was a list ... and I love this concept. My favorite part of David Letterman was the Top 10 lists he'd do so putting a new spin on poetry like this is super exciting. Thanks so much for your creative inspiration :-)
